2020 : A year in review

2020: A year in review

I know it has been a while since something has been posted and I am sorry that happened. I guess festivities took over. Anyway we are back for this new year. But before we move on and move forward we have to look back at the past which is now 2020.

It’s no doubt that 2020 was a very strange year. A lot of the events from last year will constantly affect the way we see things for a long time. 2020 brought COVID-19. Health has never seemed so important until now. Corona showed that there are other ways to live. We started online school, we were quarantined for months, our parents worked from home. Our whole system of doing things completely changed. We lost a lot of people to it and it was scary. But there are things we have learned from it. Like the fact that we can adapt and survive. That we can adjust quickly. Black Lives Matter the movement showed that people of different races could come and march unanimously to a single goal. The movement didn’t just highlight racism embedded in different societies but it showed the injustices and police brutality that proud black people face for being them; BLACK. In Nigeria, there was End SARS. That period was emotionally scarring for me. My mind was everywhere. (If you didn’t know about the event; End SARS, you can read about it on our blog or click this link END SARS – Afroteens ). There was also the Lekki Massacre What is happening in Nigeria (#END SARS) – Afroteens . I think it’s safe to say that this year was emotional. For Afro Teens it was the year everything started. The idea has been around for a while, but it never really actualized till last year. It was when we put out two websites and the YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuRdJp4tl3XuLCawD0hwLcA . It was when we launched the merch. It was a nice start for us. The hope for 2021 is to grow and learn from 2020. We want to enjoy this year with you and overcome challenges to come together.

Happy New Year y’all.
